Frequently Asked Questions

Mahomet Seymour Soccer Club

Q: What is club soccer? What are MSSC's goals?
A: Mahomet Seymour Soccer Club ("MSSC") offers the club soccer program to provide children in the area with the opportunity play a higher level of competitive soccer.

We strive to provide the best training, an appropriate level of competition, and a fun environment for the boys and girls to improve their skills and develop a passion for the game that will translate into success both on and off the field.  The Mahomet Seymour Soccer Club encourages and promotes ethical and moral behavior, good sportsmanship, community involvement and good citizenship. It is our hope that a large proportion of these individuals will pursue the sport through their teenage years, high school and on into adult life.

Q: Who do you play? How far do you travel? Are there overnight trips?
A: MSSC primarily plays teams in the Central Illinois Area. We play league games against teams from Champaign, Bloomington, Monticello, Hoopeston, Charleston, Danville, Decatur, Morton, Peoria and Springfield. Games are usually played on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Teams may also participate in tournaments in Central Illinois and sometimes in Iowa or Indiana. Teams may participate in one to three tournaments that may require an overnight stay.

Q: When does the season start and end?

A: Outdoor spring practices typically start the first week of March (weather permitting) and the season may run to the first week of June. The length of the season will vary for individual teams and age levels. Many teams offer optional winter indoor training and participation in winter leagues.

Q: Who are the coaches?

A: We seek out coaches who are dedicated and are excellent teachers and role models for the kids in the program.  Our coaches have completed at a minimum the E Certification Coaches training offered through the Illinois Youth Soccer Association ("IYSA"). MSSC encourages and reimburses the costs for the coaches to pursue continued coaching development through ongoing education opportunities.

Q: How many practices and games per week?
A: Teams will practice two to three times per week. Teams can expect to play one or two games each week. If the team is participating in a tournament, they could play two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday.

Q: Where do you play home games?
A: We play our home soccer games at various locations in Mahomet, Illinois.

Q. Are there volunteer opportunities?
A. Yes. If you have a soccer coaching or playing background and are interested in assisting, please let us know. We are also in need of assistance with lawn mowing, goal set up, field maintenance and soccer field line painting. Please contact MSSC if you are able to help out. All help is appreciated.

Q. Is MSSC a 501 (c)(3)?  How can I contribute financially to MSSC?
A. Yes. MSSC is a 501(c)(3) Non Profit Corporation. Tax deductible contributions are welcomed and needed. The funds provided allow the soccer club to dedicate additional resources to all aspects of improving the soccer club through procurement of new equipment, coaches training and providing financial aid to deserving youth soccer players in the area.

A. Yes. MSSC does not want any child to be unable to participate in the club soccer program due to financial hardship. MSSC will provide financial assistance to cover some or all of the financial costs (including uniform cost, club fee and team fee).
